Why “Wise Mind Money?”
I am a mental health therapist by trade. There is a certain type of therapy called Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which has this concept called “wise mind.” Wise mind can be explained by picturing a venn diagram where “emotion mind” and “logic mind” overlap to form wise mind in the middle. Wise mind is the state of mind that acknowledges both the logical and the emotional, and is a balance of the two.
To me, simply put, my wise mind means being honest and open with myself (and the internet, now). I will share just about anything when it comes to my money. I think the whole notion of avoiding talking about money on a personal level just perpetuates money shame, and I’m here to put it all out on the table.
Wise Mind Money is about my own values, hopes and dreams, and my journey through a hell of a lot of debt. I hate how cliche this sounds, but for me money is about freedom. I value the freedom of my time – choosing how to spend my time – above almost anything else. Wise Mind Money is my reminder to keep it real, because all mindfulness really means is awareness.
